ATLANTA (May 1, 2012) – PIC is pleased to announce that it has entered into an operations and maintenance contract with Golden Spread Electric Cooperative, Inc., headquartered in Amarillo, Texas. PIC will provide full care, custody and control O&M services to GSEC’s Mustang Station facility, located near Denver City, Texas. The facility is currently comprised of two GE 7231FA combustion turbine generators, and an ABB VAX steam turbine generator, operating in combined cycle mode. The facility also includes two GE 7241FA combustion turbine generators operating in simple cycle peaking mode. This is the second O&M contract between PIC and GSEC.

‘This agreement demonstrates GSEC’s confidence in our ability to meet their O&M needs,” said Bruce Wertz, Director of O&M at PIC. “We also operate GSEC’s Antelope Station in Abernathy, Texas. Our efficient handling of that facility, and its 18 Wartsila reciprocating engine generators, has shown GSEC that when you contract with PIC, you truly get the best of the best.”

Like Antelope Station, Mustang Station provides low cost, reliable electric service for its rural distribution cooperative members.

Golden Spread Electric Cooperative, Inc. is a tax-exempt, consumer-owned public utility, organized in 1984 to provide low cost, reliable electric service for its rural distribution cooperative members. Its 16 member systems serve more than 185,000 retail consumers located in the Oklahoma Panhandle and an area covering 24 percent of Texas’ land area including the Panhandle, South Plains and Edwards Plateau Regions.

Safety is PIC’s top priority. As part of World Generation magazine’s Class of 2012 feature, PIC’s Executive Vice President and General Councel, Dirk Rountree, explains how PIC has taken an untraditional approach to its safety programs.

“Safety is a popular topic in the power generation industry. The traditional approach relies on only a few individuals to carry the full weight of their organization’s safety programs. At PIC, we don’t appoint that responsibility to just one or two people. Safe work habits are integrated into the daily lives of all employees – from the field to top management. Everyone is empowered to make changes and is accountable for their actions.”
