ATLANTA (July 14, 2010) - PIC was recently awarded a 10 year operations and maintenance contract by Termopalermo S.A.S ESP for the 400 megawatt Termopalermo Power Plant. Commercial operation of Phase I is scheduled to begin October 2011.

Currently being constructed near Barranquilla, Colombia, the Termopalermo Power Plant will provide approximately 400 megawatts of power using one W501 AA and three W501 D5 units. PIC’s scope of work on this project includes start-up and commissioning of the facility as well as full operations and site performed maintenance.

“We are pleased to welcome Termopalermo to the PIC O&M family. Like most power asset owners, Termopalermo was looking for a way to maintain a healthy facility while keeping costs low. PIC’s flexible service offerings and site performed maintenance model met this need, eliminating middleman agreements,” said Jim Miller, Vice President of PIC O&M.

Under this site performed maintenance contract with Termopalermo, PIC’s on-site operators will perform all minor and major maintenance at the plant. A replacement for expensive long term service agreements, site performed maintenance will leverage the site personnel’s equpiment experience to save Termopalermo money while maintaining OEM level quality. Other benefits of this model include more owner control, enhanced QA/QC and lower overall risk.

ATLANTA (June 15, 2010) - PIC is pleased to announce the appointment of Joe Bono to the position of Director of Business Development, Operations & Maintenance.

In this position, Bono will build and cultivate new relationships for PIC’s O&M service organization. Citing a strong corporate foundation and progressive leadership as reasons for joining the PIC team, Bono’s goal is to “establish PIC as the industry’s preferred choice for third party O&M services.” Bono believes that traditional markets, such as gas and steam, as well as the renewable energy sector are key areas of growth for PIC.

“The direct operational experience of PIC’s O&M team on renewable projects offers significant advantages in a market that is seeking legitimate and qualified renewable energy operators,” explained Bono. “Our people are field-proven, and the global resources at their disposal allow them to come up to speed immediately and tackle projects head-on.”

Bono’s experience includes over 20 years in the power generation industry. Most recently, Bono held the position of O&M Sales Director at Colorado Energy where he developed and inplemented the marketing and sales program for their entry into the third party O&M service business. He has also worked for companies such as GE Energy and Wood Group.

ATLANTA (May 5, 2010) - PIC is pleased to announce that it has been awarded the construction portion of all Metso Paper supplied equipment at the Nacogdoches Generating Facility in Sacul, Tex. Commercial operation is expected to begin in 2012.

Once completed, Nacogdoches will be the largest biomass power plant in the United States. This facility will generate approximately 100 megawatts of clean, renewable energy using wood waste as the primary fuel. Owned and operated by Southern Power, a subsidiary of Southern Company, Nacogdoches will support the growing electricity needs of Austin, Tex. through a 20 year power purchase agreement with Austin Energy.

“We are excited to be brought on board for this installation,” said Tom Lipinski, Vice President of PIC’s Installation Services. “Being part of such a large green energy project is a huge part of our business plan. We look forward to bringing the PIC expertise to Texas and working safely, efficiently and on-budget.” PIC’s scope of work for this project includes the installation of structural steel, a bubbling fluidized bed boiler and the air quality emissions control systems.

Six weeks ahead of schedule, the last seam was welded on the boiler and AQCS at the new Wygen III power plant.

PIC’s exceptional people and processes set the pace for construction early on and its scope of work represented about 30 percent of the power plant project’s total man hours. “Our focus on safety was key to this project’s success,” said Tom Lipinski, vice president of PIC Installation Services. PIC’s technicians put in 262,500 hours without a single lost time incident.

“We always make sure that safety is our first priority. This project shows how safety and efficiency can work together. Thanks to our field-proven processes and extensive safety training methods, our team was able to complete this installation ahead of schedule and under budget,” added Lipinski.

Wygen III is a 110 MW coal-fired generating facility at the Neil Simpson Complex near Gillette, Wyo. The plant, which began commercial operation on April 1, 2010, has state-of-the-art emissions controls that monitor for SO2, mercury, NOx, CO and opacity. The plant’s efficient mine-mouth operation ensures a reliable supply of coal from the adjacent Wyodak Resources mine while also eliminating coal transportation costs.

Wygen III provides electricity to utility customers of Black Hills Power, Montanta-Dakota Utilities and the City of Gillette. MDU purchased a 25 percent ownership in the plant in April 2009. The City of Gillette has been served by BHP for many years and their power purchase agreement with BHP includes an option for the City to purchase 23 percent of Wygen III.

“It has been Black Hills’ pleasure to work with PIC over the last year and a half on the Wygen III project. Their commitment to both safety and quality in their work was evident throughout the project,” said Mark Lux, vice president and general manager of Power Delivery at Black Hills Corp., the parent company of Black Hills Power.
