PIC Executes O&M Contract Renewal in Peru

ATLANTA (September 16, 2010) – PIC and its subsidiary, PIC del Peru S.A.C., have renewed the operations and long term maintenance contracts for the Aguaytia Power Project located in Aguaytia, Peru.  Originally signed in January 2003, the extended contract will continue through 2013.  The renewal includes full autonomous O&M care, custody and control services at the plant on a fixed based cost.

PIC recently performed a full rotor replacement on one of the ALSTOM GT11NMC gas turbine units at this facility.  As a result of PIC’s preventive and predictive maintenance program, a three millimeter crack was found on one of the rotors.  According to the OEM’s standards, the cracked rotor required full replacement.  Using site personnel as well as regional and corporate U.S. support, PIC’s O&M team successfully completed the change out, static and dynamic balancing, and the re-commissioning of the unit.

“We want to congratulate our team on their dedication and effort that led to a job well done.  This is a significant milestone for PIC’s O&M team,” said Carlos Lopez, PIC’s Latin American Regional Manager.  “We’d also like to thank the plant’s owner, Duke Energy Egenor, for trusting us to handle this groundbreaking project internally.”

During the 36 day outage in Aguaytia, PIC operators also performed major maintenance on the balance-of-plant, switchgear and main breaker.  Thanks to the equipment familiarity of the team, the outage was finished nine days early, within budget parameters and without a single lost time or recordable incident.  PIC has executed three full major maintenance cycles on the GT11NMC units (including combustion inspections and hot gas path inspections) as well as three major maintenance inspections of the turbines and balance-of-plant.  PIC will perform a second rotor replacement during the next C5 inspection in 2013.
