ATLANTA (February 2, 2011) – PIC is pleased to announce that it has entered into a three year operations and maintenance contract with Golden Spread Electric Cooperative, Inc. (GSEC). PIC will provide full care, custody and control O&M services to GSEC’s 182 megawatt Antelope Station located in Abernathy, Texas.
The facility will utilize 18 Wartsila diesel generators to provide power to GSEC’s distribution cooperative members. Currently under construction, the gas-fired plant is scheduled to begin commercial operation in March 2011. So far, this new facility has brought hundreds of construction jobs to the community and will require 16 permanent employees.
“We are excited to welcome GSEC to the PIC O&M family. As the only O&M company that can both operate plants and perform full maintenance services, PIC’s approach allows our customers to achieve the maximum operational and financial goals for their facilities,” said Jim Miller, Vice President of O&M at PIC. “PIC currently operates a plant in Nevada that is similar to Antelope Station, so our team is well versed on these units. We are looking forward to bringing our programs and experience to Texas.”
GSEC is a tax-exempt, consumer-owned public utility, organized in 1984 to provide low cost, reliable electric service for its rural distribution cooperative members. Its 16 member systems serve more than 185,000 retail consumers located in the Oklahoma Panhandle and an area covering 24 percent of Texas’ land area including the Panhandle, South Plains and Edwards Plateau Regions.
