PMEG Extends O&M Contract with Barrick Goldstrike Mines
ATLANTA (July 23, 2007) - PIC-Marubeni Energy Group (PMEG), a service provider for the global power generation industry, announces that it has extended its full care, custody, and control contract for operations and maintenance (O&M) services with Barrick Goldstrike, Inc. for the Western 102 Power Plant located in McCarran, Nevada.
The Western 102 Power Plant is comprised of fourteen Wärtsilä 20V34SG reciprocating engines burning natural gas and having total net output of approximately 115 MW. The facility is one of the largest reciprocating power plants in North America and utilizes Wärtsilä’s latest reciprocating engine technology. This power plant provides the Goldstrike Property with the flexibility to generate its own power or buy cheaper power from other producers, with the goals of minimizing the cost of power consumed and enhancing the reliability of electricity availability at its mine. PMEG has been under contract since June 16th, 2005.
The Western 102 Power Plant also received the Safety & Health Award of Merit from Barrick Gold of North America for completing year 2006 with no lost time injuries. PMEG’s Plant Manager, Curtis Wolfe, and his O&M team have continued to demonstrate their commitment to safety excellence by maintaining a zero accident status for the past two years.
Larry Morasse, Western 102’s General Manager, said “A safe work environment is my number one priority for Western 102. PMEG has done a good job balancing that attention to safety with the unique power demands of our mining operation.”
