ATLANTA (May 17, 2006) – The PIC Companies Industrial Services Division is pleased to announce the successful completion of a scheduled maintenance outage on a 450-MW coal-fired boiler in Kentucky. The outage included complete replacement of the RH and SH sections of the unit, as well as thereplacement of four Economizer hoppers.
The eight-week outage, which consisted of over 7,700 tube welds and over 3,000 linear feet of structural welding, at times had up to 200 craft workers on site and required extensive rigging and welding expertise.
The outage falls under PIC’s five-year maintenance contract to provide scheduled and unscheduled maintenance for four facilities in the state of Kentucky. The facilities under contract include one 2,000-MW power plant; one 1,470-MW power plant; one 650-MW power plant and 300-MW power plant.
Each site consists of multiple, large, coal-fired boilers with steam turbine trains and related equipment. During the term of the agreement, PIC will provide these facilities with scheduled and unscheduled maintenance with continual on-site personnel. Personnel perform day-to-day maintenance tasks generated by the owner’s CMMS. PIC’s maintenance services include full time attention to the turbines, boilers, coal handling equipment, piping, rotating equipment and BOP equipment.
